Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has moved to seek a way forward for the resumption of the 2026/27 SportPesa Premier League following the latest legal developments that forced the postponement of the competition.

The FKF Premier League had been scheduled to kick off on Saturday, September 19, after FKF and club representatives reached an agreement on the new season’s start date. However, the opening matches were called off after fresh High Court orders created uncertainty over the league’s composition and the legality of proceeding with the fixtures.

The latest dispute is linked to the promotion and relegation framework, with court proceedings involving Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United affecting preparations for the new campaign. One of the orders directed that a promotion-and-relegation playoff be addressed before the league proceeds.

Mohammed is now seeking the court’s intervention to enable football activities to move forward, amid growing concern from clubs, players and supporters who had prepared for the September 19 kick-off.

The federation had earlier engaged Premier League clubs on key issues, including the foreign-player quota and medical arrangements, in an effort to clear the way for the new season.

The latest postponement has once again left clubs and supporters waiting for clarity on when competitive league football will resume.

As the legal process continues, FKF’s engagement with the courts and the football stakeholders is expected to determine the next steps for the 2026/27 season.

The development comes at a critical time for Kenyan football, with preparations also underway for major international competitions, including AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host.
