HANDA CALLS FOR ACTION ON CONVEYANCING CHALLENGES AS LSK PRACTITIONERS PUSH FOR EFFICIENCY
By Legal Affairs News Nairobi, September 17, 2026 — Incoming Law Society of Kenya (LSK) representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Ekaterina Handa, has called for sustained dialogue and practical action to address challenges affecting conveyancing practice in Kenya.
Handa made the remarks after attending the LSK President’s Kamukunji with Conveyancing Lawyers, held at the National Library in Upperhill and subsequently online. The forums were convened by LSK President Charles Kanjama, SC, to provide practitioners with an opportunity to share experiences and propose solutions affecting the profession.
The discussions focused on several challenges encountered by conveyancing practitioners, including operational difficulties with ArdhiSasa, delays in valuations, rates and consents, timelines for registration and perfection of securities, as well as the need for greater uniformity and predictability in land registries.
According to Handa, the discussions provided an important platform for practitioners to speak openly about their experiences and contribute to possible interventions that can improve efficiency and restore confidence in conveyancing processes.
She commended President Charles Kanjama, SC, for convening the forums and creating an avenue for practitioners to contribute directly to discussions affecting their area of practice.
Handa also thanked lawyers who participated physically and virtually, as well as the LSK Secretariat for facilitating the engagement.
She called for the conversation to continue beyond the forums, with a focus on translating the concerns raised by practitioners into practical interventions.
“Let us sustain this conversation and turn it into action,” Handa said.
The engagement comes as conveyancing practitioners continue to seek more efficient, predictable and responsive systems for land transactions and registration.
