ASNET Chairman, Calls for ASNET Chairman Bimal has called for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector to unlock the full potential of Kenya’s agricultural sector and accelerate economic transformation.
Speaking on the need to strengthen Kenya’s agricultural value chain, Bimal said closer cooperation between public institutions, farmers, investors, manufacturers and other private-sector players is essential to address persistent challenges facing the sector.
He noted that agriculture remains a critical pillar of Kenya’s economy and a major source of livelihoods, but its growth can be accelerated through strategic partnerships, innovation, investment and better coordination between government and industry.
“We need stronger collaboration between government and the private sector if we are to transform agriculture and create sustainable opportunities for farmers and businesses,” said Bimal.
He emphasized the importance of creating an enabling environment for private investment while ensuring that farmers have access to affordable inputs, modern technology, markets, financing and reliable infrastructure.
According to Bimal, partnerships should focus not only on agricultural production but also on value addition, agro-processing, storage, logistics and access to local and international markets.
He further urged the government to engage the private sector more closely when developing agricultural policies and programmes, arguing that industry players possess valuable expertise, technology and investment capacity that can complement government efforts.
The ASNET Chairman said a coordinated approach would help reduce post-harvest losses, improve productivity, strengthen farmer incomes and create employment opportunities across the agricultural value chain.
He called on stakeholders to move beyond discussions and establish practical partnerships that deliver measurable results for farmers, consumers and the wider economy.
“The future of agriculture lies in partnership. Government and the private sector must work together to build a productive, competitive and sustainable agricultural sector,” Bimal said.
The call comes amid growing efforts to position agriculture as a key driver of Kenya’s economic growth, food security, industrialisation and job creation.
