Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir has joined fellow Coast leaders, led by Cabinet Secretary Waziri Hassan Ali Joho, in a high-level engagement with President William Samoei Ruto aimed at advancing a shared and inclusive development agenda for the Coastal region.

The meeting reaffirmed strong collaboration between national and county leadership in accelerating key infrastructure, health, and education projects critical to the region’s growth.Governor Nassir highlighted deliberate progress made by the County Government of Mombasa in strengthening services at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.

He noted that the county is ready to receive the President for the official commissioning of the second cancer treatment machine, a major milestone that will double the hospital’s daily patient handling capacity from 70 to 140 patients.“This investment will significantly improve access to specialized cancer care not only for Mombasa residents but for patients across the entire Coastal region,” the Governor said.

The Governor also welcomed the President’s firm commitment to improving regional connectivity through the dualling of the Mombasa–Malindi Road and the Mombasa–Lunga Lunga Road, describing them as critical arteries for trade, tourism, and economic expansion. On education, Governor Nassir emphasized the county’s innovative approach to easing the burden on parents by restructuring its bursary programme to absorb the school feeding component in day secondary schools. This intervention will reduce school fees by KSh 12,000 per student annually.

With complementary support from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) through Members of Parliament, parents in Mombasa can now expect to pay between KSh 1,000 and KSh 2,000 per term for day secondary education.

“This is what collaborative leadership looks like—practical partnerships that deliver real relief and real opportunity for our people,” Governor Nassir stated.

The engagement underscored a united Coastal leadership committed to working with the national government to unlock development, improve service delivery, and uplift the livelihoods of residents across the region.
