RUTO COMMISSIONS KSh BILLION-SCALE KISERIAN–ONGATA RONGAI WATER PROJECT, TO SERVE 180,000+ RESIDENTS

President William Samoei Ruto and Eric Mugaa,CS Water has commissioned the Kiserian–Ongata Rongai Water Supply Project in Rongai, Kajiado County, marking a major milestone in the government’s efforts to expand access to reliable and clean water.
Construction of the project commenced in October 2020 and was successfully completed in June 2025. The flagship investment is designed to transform water supply in Kajiado North and West constituencies, benefiting more than 180,000 residents.
A key component of the project is approximately 9.2 kilometres of bulk-water transmission pipeline, which will convey up to 5 million litres of water per day from Nairobi’s water-supply system to Ongata Rongai and Kiserian.
The project has also seen the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Mbagathi and Kiserian Water Treatment Plants, alongside the construction of approximately 210 kilometres of ring mains and distribution pipelines.
Other components include the construction of three major storage reservoirs, provision of about 8,300 new consumer connections, rehabilitation of six existing boreholes, and development of 14 new boreholes together with associated local water-supply systems.
The project is expected to significantly improve water availability, reliability and coverage, while reducing the impact of recurring water shortages in the rapidly growing Kiserian and Ongata Rongai areas.
The additional water capacity is also expected to contribute to improved public health, greater household access to clean water and enhanced resilience against water scarcity.
The commissioning underscores the government’s broader water-security agenda, with the project expected to play a critical role in meeting the growing demand for water in Kajiado County and surrounding areas.
