NO GENUINE VODKA IN KENYA!” — MUTUTHO DROPS BOMBSHELL CLAIM ON ALCOHOL INDUSTRY

Former NACADA chairman John Mututho has made a startling claim about Kenya’s vodka market, alleging that the country has no genuine vodka that meets internationally accepted standards.

Speaking during an interview on NTV, Mututho declared: “There’s no genuine vodka in Kenya.” He argued that manufacturers seeking to market products as vodka should comply with internationally recognised standards governing the spirit.

Mututho also raised questions about the supply chain for industrial ethanol in Kenya, claiming that one company imports as much as 80 per cent of the industrial ethanol consumed in the country, before the product is distributed to manufacturers.

According to Mututho, some manufacturers allegedly take the industrial ethanol, dilute it with water, add flavours and subsequently package the resulting products under different brand names.

 

The claims, if substantiated, could reignite debate over the quality, regulation, labelling and safety of alcoholic beverages sold in the Kenyan market.

Mututho’s remarks are allegations and would require verification from the relevant regulatory authorities and industry players.
