16 Years of the 2010 Constitution: Ruto Reaffirms Commitment to a United, Peaceful and Secure Kenya

Kenya has marked 16 years since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, with President William Samoei Ruto and government leaders reaffirming their commitment to the constitutional values of democracy, justice, inclusivity and the rule of law.

President Ruto noted that sixteen years after Kenyans ushered in the transformative Constitution, the country must continue to uphold its promise of building a democratic, just and prosperous nation founded on human dignity, inclusivity and respect for the rule of law.

“As we reflect on the journey so far, we rededicate ourselves to upholding the values and principles of governance that the Constitution promised our people,” the President said.

The commemoration brought together national leaders and citizens to reflect on Kenya’s constitutional journey and the progress made since the Constitution was promulgated in 2010.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national unity, peace and security while ensuring that the principles and values enshrined in the Constitution remain central to governance.

The occasion served as a reminder of the aspirations that inspired the 2010 Constitution and the collective responsibility of Kenyans and their leaders to protect and advance its gains.

The celebrations were held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
