Orengo Alleges State-Backed Plans to Disrupt Homa Bay Rally, Warns of Political Violence

Homa Bay, Kenya — August 12, 2026Siaya Governor James Orengo has raised alarm over what he describes as intelligence reports pointing to a planned attempt to disrupt the upcoming Linda Mwananchi Homa Rally scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Orengo claims he is the main target of an alleged politically organised campaign of violence, which he says is being coordinated and funded through state-linked political actors and leaders from Homa Bay County.

According to Orengo, several meetings have allegedly been held in hotels and other public venues to plan how to disrupt the rally, which he maintains is intended to be a peaceful political gathering.

He further alleged that some youths have been supplied with crude weapons, including rungus, pangas and knives, in preparation for possible clashes during the event.

Orengo called for the alleged plans to be stopped, warning that political violence must not be allowed to undermine peaceful political participation.

Despite the alleged threats, Orengo said the rally will proceed as planned and declared that attempts to block the political movement in Nyanza would not succeed.

He also delivered a politically charged message ahead of the 2027 General Election, declaring that the region is “One Term” and saying this would be demonstrated through the ballot.

“Sisi tutajilinda!” Orengo declared, signalling his supporters’ determination to protect themselves while attending the rally.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the leaders and groups accused of organising the alleged violence have not been identified publicly in the statement. Authorities are expected to address any credible security concerns ahead of Sunday’s rally.
