"By News Brief Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs, Wycliffe Oparanya, has intensified his political engagements, fueling speculation that he is positioning himself for the Deputy President's slot in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the Annual General Meeting of the Luhya Community in the Nyanza Region at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu County, Oparanya reaffirmed the community’s commitment to unity and a shared vision. The event also saw him installed and crowned as the community’s spokesperson, a role he said he accepted with humility and determination.
“I accept this honour with great pride and will not let you down as we strengthen the identity that defines us as one people,” Oparanya said.
He thanked the Luhya community in the Nyanza region for its continued loyalty to ODM and urged members to remain united as the party consolidates its grassroots support. Oparanya also rallied support for President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, citing the administration’s development agenda and ongoing transformation projects, particularly in the Western region.
His remarks come amid political debate over the future of the broad-based government, with voices within ODM arguing that if the coalition continues into 2027, the Deputy President’s position should remain with the party.
The meeting was attended by Kisumu Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, several Members of the Kisumu County Assembly, and other regional leaders.
