High-Level Industry Forum Focused on Safety, Infrastructure and Innovation
STATE DEPARTMENT FOR AVIATION AND AEROSPACE DEVELOPMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO A SAFE, MODERN AND GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE AVIATION SECTOR
The State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Kenya’s aviation industry through enhanced collaboration with key stakeholders during the quarterly Aviation Sector Industry Affairs Breakfast Forum coordinated by the Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO).
The forum brought together senior officials from the State Department, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), airline operators, and industry leaders to deliberate on critical issues shaping the future of Kenya’s aviation sector.
Discussions focused on strategic priorities including the modernization of aerodrome infrastructure, with particular emphasis on Wilson Airport, progress on the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport Masterplans, the evolving legislative and regulatory framework, licensing and certification, mitigation of bird strike risks, and the adoption of technology to improve safety, efficiency and operational excellence.
Speaking during the forum, participants emphasized that continuous engagement between government and industry players remains essential in building a resilient, competitive and internationally compliant aviation sector capable of supporting Kenya’s economic growth and regional connectivity.
The State Department was represented by Eng. Kabunge, Acting Director of Air Accidents and Incidents, Sam Karau, Acting Director of Air Transport, alongside other senior officials.
Industry leaders in attendance included KAAO Chairman Mbuvi Ngunze, Safarilink Aviation Limited CEO Alex Avedi, Skyward Express Chairman Capt. Mohammed, KCAA Acting Director General Nicholas Bodo, representatives from the Kenya Airports Authority, and other key aviation stakeholders.
The State Department reaffirmed that stakeholder engagement will remain a top priority as Kenya continues to align its aviation industry with international standards, enhance safety and security, modernize infrastructure, and position the country as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
