Trans Nzoia County, Kenya – August 3, 2026 – The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, E.G.H., today led a comprehensive Government outreach programme at Maridadi Primary School in Kwanza Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, reaffirming the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s commitment to inclusive development, environmental sustainability and improved livelihoods for all Kenyans.
Speaking during the Climate Action and Improved Livelihood Programme, Dr. Barasa underscored the importance of linking climate action with economic empowerment. She encouraged farmers to adopt climate-smart agriculture by integrating high-value tree crops into their farming systems to increase household incomes, improve food security, restore degraded landscapes and build resilience against the impacts of climate change.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized that true development is measured by the positive impact it has on people’s lives. During the event, she presided over the distribution of assistive devices, including wheelchairs, to Persons with Disabilities, enhancing their mobility, dignity and independence. She also distributed learning materials to schools and announced that computers and laptops will soon be delivered to equip learners with essential digital skills for the modern economy.
The outreach programme brought vital Government services closer to residents, including Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, IEBC voter registration, National Identity Card registration and a Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Journalism Career Clinic, where young people received guidance on career opportunities in the media industry.
In addition, support was extended to widows, vulnerable families, orphanages and youth, reflecting the Government’s continued commitment to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the country’s development journey.
Dr. Barasa called on residents to fully embrace Government programmes designed to uplift communities and improve livelihoods, noting that sustainable development requires active public participation.
She reaffirmed that under the leadership of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, the Kenya Kwanza Administration remains focused on delivering transformative development across the country. She noted that Kwanza Constituency is experiencing tangible progress through strategic investments in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, economic empowerment and social inclusion.
“Climate action is not only about protecting our environment; it is about creating opportunities, improving livelihoods and building a prosperous future for every Kenyan,” Dr. Barasa said.
