Carrefour Kenya, KCB Bank Kenya and Mastercard Launch Prepaid card for Smarter Grocery Budgeting

Nairobi, Kenya, 28 July 2026: Carrefour, which Majid Al Futtaim holds the exclusive rights to operate in Kenya, has collaborated with KCB Bank Kenya and Mastercard to launch the Carrefour Prepaid card. The payment solution is designed to help customers better plan, manage, and control their grocery spending, reinforcing their commitment to delivering greater value and convenience.

The prepaid card allows customers to set a budget, track their spending, ensure funds dedicated to household essentials are used as intended, and benefit from exclusive Carrefour discounts and rewards.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “Helping our customers shop smarter means giving them simple, predictable tools for everyday essentials. The Carrefour Prepaid card allows customers to plan grocery spending, stay in control and manage household budgets with confidence, while retaining the ease of card payments. This is part of Carrefour Kenya’s broader commitment to making everyday shopping simpler and more rewarding for our customers.”

The prepaid solution is particularly suited to customers supporting households remotely, managing shared budgets, or seeking a simpler alternative to cash and multiple payment methods. It provides a controlled and transparent way to manage grocery expenses while retaining the ease and familiarity of card-based payments. Reloadable via Mastercard Gateway using any bank card from any country, the prepaid card is made available to businesses through Merchant Cloud, Mastercard’s unified merchant commerce platform. This simplifies cross-border support, making it easier than ever for customers to care for loved ones, manage household needs, and ensure funds are always available when needed.

Commenting on the collaboration, Jane Isiaho, Director of Retail Banking at KCB Bank Kenya, added: “At KCB Bank Kenya, collaborations are key to delivering innovative solutions that meet our customers’ evolving needs. Through this collaboration with Mastercard, we are offering a payment solution that reduces reliance on cash. The card is easy to use, supported by 24/7 customer service, and available across all Carrefour stores, while offering features that enable better planning and day-to-day spending management.”

Adding to this, Shehryar Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager for East Africa and Indian Ocean Islands at Mastercard, said: “At Mastercard, we are committed to enabling simple, secure and inclusive payment solutions that meet people’s everyday needs. The Carrefour Prepaid card brings together convenience, control and value, helping customers manage their budgets more effectively while enjoying the safety and ease of digital payments. This collaboration reflects our continued focus on expanding access to practical payment innovations that support consumers and businesses across Kenya.”

The introduction of the Carrefour Prepaid card reflects Majid Al Futtaim ongoing commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions, while strengthening Carrefour’s role in helping customers better manage everyday shopping and budgeting. Customers can sign up in-store through dedicated staff-assisted activations or via digital channels and will benefit from a range of introductory incentives, including cashback and reward points.
