Kenya’s aviation industry has announced a nationwide strike action beginning Friday, citing what it describes as continued harassment and unfair treatment at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The workers say they have exhausted all available avenues to resolve their grievances and have now resolved to withdraw their services until their concerns are addressed.
The planned industrial action is expected to disrupt flight operations, passenger services, cargo handling and other airport activities, with travellers urged to make alternative travel arrangements in anticipation of possible delays and cancellations.
Union leaders maintain that the strike is intended to protect workers’ rights, dignity and safety, while calling on the relevant authorities to engage in meaningful dialogue to avert a prolonged disruption.
The planned action is expected to affect thousands of passengers and businesses that rely on air transport, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments ahead of Friday’s planned shutdown.
