Nairobi Hosts Historic DEFCROS Summit as Global Leaders Unite to Strengthen Public Safety and Defense Cooperation
Nairobi has made history by hosting the inaugural DEFCROS Summit Kenya, the first DEFCROS event ever held outside Europe, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s global expansion and reinforcing Kenya’s growing role as a hub for international dialogue on public safety, security and defense.
Held on 14 July 2026, the summit convened government officials, industry leaders, academia, humanitarian organisations and private sector representatives to explore innovative partnerships aimed at strengthening public safety and defense capabilities through international collaboration.
Opening the summit, Kristijan Ilovača, Chief Executive Officer of DEFCROS, highlighted opportunities under U.S. Government procurement programmes, including AMIC, while outlining practical pathways for organisations seeking to participate in publicly funded international projects.
He showcased successful initiatives implemented in Kenya and other countries, underscoring the value of long-term partnerships built on local expertise, global knowledge and shared development goals.
Dunja Ilovača, Chief Operating Officer of Sky Fort Systems, emphasized the importance of collaboration among governments, universities, industry and international organisations.
She highlighted how European Union funding programmes can drive innovation, capacity building and sustainable development within the public safety and defense sectors.
Representing the humanitarian community, Kali Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of MX4 Rescue, addressed the urgent challenge of combating human trafficking. She called for stronger coordination between governments, humanitarian agencies and the private sector to enhance frontline operations and protect vulnerable communities.
The summit focused on practical cooperation, knowledge sharing and the development of internationally funded projects capable of addressing increasingly complex global security challenges. Participants agreed that today’s public safety and defense issues transcend national borders and require coordinated, multidisciplinary responses.
