Empowering Lamu: Jennifer Waridi Backs Youth and Women Through Agriculture and Fishing

Lamu County Front Runner Incoming Women Rep  in 2027 has emerged as a strong voice of hope for the people of Lamu County, with a clear focus on empowering youth and women through economic opportunities and inclusive development.

She believes that creating jobs and supporting entrepreneurship is the key to unlocking Lamu’s full potential. Waridi has pledged to champion initiatives that equip young people and women with skills, access to funding, and business opportunities in sectors that drive the county’s economy.

Lamu’s main economic activities include fishing, tourism, agriculture, livestock farming, small businesses, mining, and the growing opportunities linked to the LAPSSET corridor. Young people are also actively engaged in boda boda transport, trade, and fisheries, but many continue to face challenges such as unemployment, limited markets, and inadequate access to capital.

Waridi says her vision is to ensure that every young person and woman in Lamu has the opportunity to earn a decent livelihood by promoting vocational training, supporting small enterprises, strengthening the blue economy, and attracting investment that creates sustainable employment.

“Our youth and women are our greatest asset. By investing in their talents and creating opportunities, we can build a prosperous and self-reliant Lamu County for future generations,” she said.
