By News Desk Opposition leaders led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have accused President William Ruto's administration of presiding over a worsening security crisis, alleging that criminal gangs, working alongside rogue police officers, are being used to intimidate critics and suppress dissent.
According to the opposition, organized groups of “goons” have been involved in violent incidents in several parts of the country, including Mwiki, Kariobangi, Witima, Ol Kalou, Kisii, Keumbu, Thika Road, and even entertainment venues within Nairobi.
The leaders claim that these groups operate with the protection of elements within the National Police Service, accusing senior security officials of failing to uphold their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
The statement further alleges that police officers deployed on international peacekeeping missions gained operational experience that is now being misused domestically, while promising investigations into previous attacks have allegedly not resulted in accountability.
The opposition also claims that individuals linked to recent incidents in Ol Kalou have been positioned ahead of the upcoming by-election, warning of possible violence if urgent action is not taken.
The leaders argue that the prevailing insecurity is damaging Kenya’s reputation, discouraging investment and tourism, and increasing fear among ordinary citizens.
Concluding their statement, the opposition called on Kenyans to use the ballot in the 2027 General Election to seek political change, saying the country has an opportunity to restore peace, accountability, and public confidence in its institutions.
