UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar has criticized Standard Media Group over what he described as persistent negative reporting against the Kenya Kwanza government, urging the media house to uphold professionalism, verify facts, and report with decorum.
Speaking during Press conference Hassan Omar singled out coverage involving Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, claiming that some reports lacked factual backing and unfairly portrayed government officials.
He cautioned that the ruling party would take appropriate action regarding what it considers misleading reporting and indicated that UDA is prepared to increasingly engage alternative media platforms if mainstream outlets continue publishing stories the party believes are inaccurate or unfair.
According to Omar, the media has a responsibility to provide balanced, factual, and evidence-based reporting that informs the public without promoting misinformation. He argued that consistently negative coverage undermines public confidence and does not contribute positively to Kenya’s development.
The remarks are likely to reignite debate over the relationship between the government and the media, with press freedom advocates maintaining that journalists have a duty to report independently while ensuring accuracy and fairness.
