President William Ruto has announced a major healthcare intervention aimed at ensuring that accident victims receive immediate medical attention without delays caused by financial constraints.
Speaking on the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare access, President Ruto stated that every accident victim who arrives at a hospital will have their first 24 hours of treatment fully covered under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The President noted that emergency medical care is a critical service that should be accessible to all Kenyans regardless of their financial status. The new measure is expected to save lives by ensuring that hospitals begin treatment immediately upon receiving accident victims.
“This intervention will guarantee that no Kenyan is denied emergency care because of lack of money. The first 24 hours after an accident are often the most critical, and our priority is to ensure that patients receive timely treatment,” President Ruto said.
The announcement is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improve emergency response services across the country. Health experts have long emphasized that prompt medical intervention significantly increases survival rates and reduces complications arising from serious injuries.
The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of Kenyans involved in road accidents and other emergencies annually, while also easing the burden on families faced with unexpected medical expenses.
The government has urged healthcare facilities across the country to fully support the implementation of the emergency treatment program and ensure that accident victims receive immediate attention upon arrival.
