A fresh Senate committee reshuffle has seen ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna removed from the influential Senate Energy Committee, in a move that is already generating intense political debate.

The changes were announced by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot as part of a broader reorganization of committee memberships within the Upper House. Under the new arrangement, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has been appointed to replace Sifuna in the Energy Committee.

The committee, chaired by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, plays a critical oversight role in matters relating to Kenya’s energy sector, making it one of the most influential committees in the Senate.

Sifuna’s removal comes amid heightened political activity within ODM and ongoing national debates on governance, accountability, and the future direction of opposition politics. While no official reasons were provided for the change, the move has sparked speculation among political observers about its implications for ODM’s internal dynamics and Sifuna’s role within the party.

The reshuffle represents another significant adjustment in Senate leadership structures and committee assignments, with ODM lawmakers continuing to occupy strategic positions across various oversight committees.

Meanwhile, Moses Kajwang’s appointment strengthens his presence in one of the Senate’s most critical committees, placing him at the center of discussions and oversight concerning the country’s energy policies and projects.

As political analysts dissect the latest changes, attention is now turning to whether Sifuna’s removal was a routine administrative adjustment or a signal of shifting political alignments within the Senate and ODM leadership circles.
