Waithaka Member of County Assembly (MCA) Antony Kiragu has called on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take swift action against Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia following remarks she allegedly made during a recent campaign tour in Ol Kalou.
Addressing the media on Monday morning, Kiragu expressed concern that the statements made by the legislator could fuel ethnic tensions, particularly in cosmopolitan regions across the country. He warned that leaders must exercise caution in their public utterances, especially during politically charged periods.
The MCA urged the NCIC to intensify monitoring of political rallies organized by leaders affiliated with the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), claiming that some politicians have been making inflammatory statements ahead of the July 16 by-election.
According to Kiragu, Kenya’s peace and national unity must remain a priority, and all political actors should avoid rhetoric that could divide communities or undermine social cohesion.
The escalating political contest between rival camps has attracted significant public attention and heightened tensions in the region, making the by-election one of the most closely watched political events in recent months.
The remarks attributed to the Kipipiri MP have now placed her under increased public scrutiny and could influence voter perceptions and voting patterns as campaigns intensify ahead of the crucial by-election.
Kiragu called upon investigative agencies to independently review the statements and determine whether any laws relating to hate speech, incitement, or national cohesion were violated.
