A Nairobi woman has sparked heated debate online after claiming she was left to settle a KSh10,000 bill when a man she met through social media allegedly disappeared during their outing at a rooftop bar in the city.
In a viral post, Juliette Awata narrated how a man identified online as Allan Blessed Ochieng invited her out for drinks at a popular rooftop establishment in the Sarit area.
According to Awata, the evening appeared normal until Allan repeatedly excused himself to take phone calls before eventually failing to return to their table.
Awata says she became concerned after waiting for an extended period and later inquired with restaurant staff, only to discover that the bill had not been settled. She claims staff members briefly detained her as they sought payment for the drinks and refreshments consumed during the meeting.
Faced with the situation, Awata reportedly paid the KSh10,000 bill herself before sharing her experience on social media, where the story quickly gained widespread attention and mixed reactions from Kenyans.
The woman further alleged that after being confronted over the incident, Allan deleted his social media account, making it difficult to reach him. She has since appealed to members of the public who may know his whereabouts to help her recover the money.
The incident has ignited debate online about safety, accountability, and etiquette when meeting people through social media platforms. While some users sympathized with Awata and condemned the alleged conduct, others questioned the circumstances surrounding the encounter and urged caution when arranging meetings with strangers.
As the story continues to circulate online, no official response has been issued by the man named in the allegations, and the claims remain unverified.
