Concern and frustration marked proceedings at the Nakuru High Court today after Captain Edwin Muthomi Kaunga of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), who is facing allegations of murdering his wife, the late Anita Mugweru, was not produced before the court as previously ordered.
The case, which has attracted significant public attention, is being closely followed by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Frolics of Hope Africa NGO, who are pursuing justice on behalf of the deceased’s family and the couple’s minor child.
Captain Kaunga is accused of brutally stabbing Anita Mugweru to death in an incident that allegedly occurred in the presence of the couple’s four-year-old child and a househelp. The tragic circumstances surrounding the case have sparked widespread calls for accountability and justice.
Speaking after the court session, those following the matter expressed disappointment over the suspect’s absence, noting that the delay prolongs the pain and uncertainty endured by the victim’s loved ones.
“Our thoughts remain with the innocent child and the family who continue to endure unimaginable pain while waiting for justice. No family should have to suffer such heartbreak, and no child should have to carry such traumatic memories,” they stated.
Anita Mugweru is remembered by family and friends as a loving mother whose life was cut tragically short. Supporters of the family have vowed to continue monitoring the proceedings until justice is achieved.
May Anita Mugweru continue to rest in peace.
