PS Susan Mang’eni Urges Kenyans to Trust NYOTA Programme, Warns Against Online Fraudsters
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Hon. Susan Auma Mang’eni, has urged Kenyan youth and entrepreneurs to remain vigilant against fraudsters exploiting the popularity of the NYOTA Programme by posing as government agents online.
Speaking to the press, the PS reassured the public that the Government remains committed to ensuring the success of the NYOTA initiative, which has already benefited thousands of young people and small business owners across the country through grants, training, and enterprise support.
Hon. Mang’eni noted that concerns have emerged from some youth who reported being conned by individuals demanding money in exchange for registration or access to the programme. She emphasized that legitimate government programmes do not require applicants to pay unauthorized fees.
“The NYOTA Programme is a genuine government initiative aimed at empowering our youth and supporting small businesses. We urge Kenyans to obtain information only from official government communication channels and avoid falling victim to fraudsters seeking to exploit their hopes and aspirations,” she said.
The PS further revealed that preparations for the second phase of the NYOTA Programme are at an advanced stage and encouraged eligible beneficiaries to remain patient as official announcements will be made through verified government platforms.
She reiterated that the Government is strengthening safeguards to protect applicants and ensure that all deserving beneficiaries access opportunities transparently and fairly.
Hon. Mang’eni called on members of the public to report any suspicious individuals or online platforms claiming to offer guaranteed access to NYOTA grants in exchange for money.
The State Department reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment, job creation, and enterprise development, noting that the upcoming phase of the programme will expand opportunities for more young Kenyans to improve their livelihoods and contribute to national economic growth.
