Life Has Become Unbearable for Kenyans — Prices of Basics Are Skyrocketing,” Martha Karua Warns as Cost of Living Crisis Deepens

By News Desk

People’s Liberation Party leader has raised alarm over the rising cost of living in the country, stating that the jump in prices of basic household essentials is not only visible but deeply felt by ordinary citizens.

Karua noted that even routine shopping has become a painful exercise for many Kenyan families, who are increasingly forced to compare prices carefully, switch to cheaper brands, or return items to shelves due to financial strain.

“The jump in prices of basic household essentials is real,” Karua said, pointing to what she described as an ongoing squeeze on household incomes.

She highlighted that the situation is worsening at a time when many households are already grappling with unemployment, heavy taxation, expensive transport fares, and a general rise in food prices.

Karua further warned that continued increases in fuel prices are compounding the crisis, making it even harder for families to cope with daily expenses.

“The pain for many Kenyans is real, and it is not right,” she added, calling for urgent interventions to stabilize the economy and ease pressure on citizens.

The opposition leader urged policymakers to prioritize cost-of-living relief measures, arguing that without immediate action, more households risk slipping into deeper financial hardship.
