President has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring reliable and adequate electricity supply across the country, describing energy access as a key driver of economic growth, industrial transformation, and improved livelihoods for Kenyans.

Speaking during a development tour in Mariakani, Kaloleni Constituency in Kilifi County, President Ruto commissioned the new 400/220kV Mariakani Sub-Station, a strategic KSh3 billion investment expected to significantly improve the stability and reliability of power supply in Kilifi County and neighboring regions.

The Head of State noted that the sub-station will play a critical role in supporting industrial expansion and economic activities, particularly at the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone in Mombasa, which is earmarked as one of the country’s major industrial and logistics hubs.

In addition, President Ruto flagged off the Last Mile Connectivity Project in Mariakani, aimed at connecting more than 24,000 homes to electricity this year at a cost of KSh2.5 billion. The initiative is expected to accelerate rural electrification, expand access to affordable energy, and improve living standards for thousands of families in the Coast region.

The President emphasized that expanding electricity access remains central to the government’s agenda of empowering businesses, supporting job creation, and attracting investments across the country.

During the visit, President Ruto also engaged residents of Mariakani, where he outlined ongoing and planned government development projects targeting infrastructure, energy, trade, and economic empowerment in the region.

Residents welcomed the projects, expressing optimism that improved electricity connectivity and infrastructure development will open up new economic opportunities and enhance service delivery in Kilifi County and the larger Coast region.
