XENOPHOBIA IN SOUTH AFRICA: A LINE CROSSED

Cyprian Nyamwamu Kenya Leader and incoming Nairobi Governor has strongly condemn the horrifying and senseless killing of a Zimbabwean woman in Johannesburg following a dispute over a mere R35.

According to reports, the victim, a small-scale vendor selling food at a roadside stall, was shot after a disagreement with a customer who refused to pay.

He said this tragic incident is not just a criminal act—it reflects a deeply troubling pattern of xenophobic hostility that continues to threaten the lives and livelihoods of foreign nationals living in South Africa.

The normalization of violence, especially over minor disputes, raises urgent questions about public safety, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable communities. No individual should lose their life over such a trivial matter, and certainly not because of their nationality.

“We call upon South African authorities to:Launch a swift and transparent investigation into this killing”,he said

Ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice

Strengthen measures to combat xenophobia and protect all residents, regardless of origin

We also urge regional bodies, civil society organizations, and African leaders to speak out and act decisively against rising intolerance and violence targeting foreign nationals.

Africa must stand united against hatred. Silence only fuels further injustice.
