Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has strongly condemned the latest increase in fuel prices, terming it as a direct attack on already struggling Kenyans.
In a statement issued following the recent price adjustment, Babu Owino said the continuous rise in fuel costs is placing an unbearable burden on millions of citizens. He emphasized that fuel prices have a ripple effect across the economy, driving up the cost of food, transportation, and essential commodities.
“The latest fuel price increase is yet another heavy blow to ordinary Kenyans already struggling to make ends meet,” he stated. “Every rise at the pump doesn’t just affect motorists—it increases the cost of living across the board.”
The legislator criticized the government under President William Ruto for what he described as a failure to prioritize the welfare of citizens. He argued that instead of offering relief, current policies are worsening the economic situation for households and small businesses.
According to Babu Owino, small enterprises are now at risk of closure due to rising operational costs, while workers and commuters are being forced to spend more on daily transport. Families, he noted, are increasingly struggling to afford basic necessities.
“Leadership should be about protecting the people, not pushing them further into hardship,” he added.
He further called for transparency and accountability in the energy sector, urging the government to implement sustainable solutions that will ease the cost of living rather than intensify the crisis.
“Enough is enough. The voices of the people must be heard,” he concluded.
The remarks come amid growing public outcry over the rising cost of fuel and its widespread impact on the Kenyan economy.
