Kenyans Hit with Brutal Price Hike as EPRA Raises Petrol by Ksh 28, Diesel by Ksh 40

Kenyans are set to dig deeper into their pockets following a sharp increase in fuel prices announced by the (EPRA) for the April 15 to May 14, 2026 pricing cycle.

In the latest review released on Tuesday, April 14, EPRA confirmed that the price of Super Petrol will rise by Ksh 28.69 per litre, while Diesel records an even steeper increase of Ksh 40.30 per litre. Kerosene prices, however, will remain unchanged.

According to EPRA, the surge in pump prices is driven by a significant spike in the landed cost of imported fuel. Data from the authority indicates that between February and March 2026, the landed cost of Super Petrol increased by 41.53 percent, Diesel by 68.72 percent, and Kerosene by a staggering 105.15 percent.

The latest adjustment is expected to trigger a ripple effect across the economy, with transport costs, food prices, and the overall cost of living likely to rise sharply. Diesel, a key driver of industrial activity and public transport, is expected to have the most immediate and far-reaching impact.

The announcement is likely to spark public outrage, piling pressure on the government amid growing concerns over the rising cost of living and economic strain on households.

EPRA maintains that the pricing review is guided by global market dynamics and the need to reflect actual import costs, even as Kenyans brace for tougher economic times ahead.
