Government Reaffirms Commitment to Jobs, Energy Stability, and Economic Growth
The Government of Kenya, through Spokesperson , has outlined major milestones and ongoing interventions across key sectors, signaling sustained progress under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Teacher Recruitment on Course
The government has so far employed over 100,000 teachers as part of its ambitious plan to recruit 116,000 educators to bridge staffing gaps in the education sector. The remaining 44,000 positions are currently subject to court processes, with relevant government institutions actively addressing the matter.
Fuel Supply Stabilized Amid Crackdown on Hoarding
The government has assured Kenyans of sufficient fuel supply nationwide, noting that recent disruptions were caused by hoarding. The is set to issue new guidelines to streamline the sector, while investigations into malpractice continue.
Relief for Coffee and Sugar Sectors
In a major boost to farmers and workers, the government has begun clearing KSh 6.8 billion in coffee sector debts, with KSh 2 billion allocated in the current budget. Additionally, KSh 2 billion has been earmarked to support the sugar industry, helping settle salary arrears and revive operations.
Energy Diversification Drive
Kenya is set to expand its energy capacity from 3,271MW to at least 10,000MW within five years. Plans include nuclear energy projects in Siaya and Kilifi counties, with the Siaya project expected to commence in March 2027 and create up to 12,000 jobs during construction.
Strong Economic Performance Recorded
The government highlighted improving macroeconomic indicators, including:
- Inflation easing to 5.3%
- Stable exchange rate at KSh 130 to the US dollar
- Projected GDP growth of 5.5% for FY 2025/26
- Over KSh 2 trillion in revenue collection
- Fiscal deficit reduced to 3.9% of GDP
Tourism continues to rebound strongly, with 7.9 million visitors recorded and steady growth in both domestic and international travel.
Women Empowerment Gains Momentum
Significant strides have been made in advancing women’s inclusion:
- 19.3 million women registered under the National Social Health Authority
- 44% representation in the judiciary and 32% in Cabinet
- 47% of affordable housing units allocated to women
Government funds such as the Women Enterprise Fund and Hustler Fund continue to support women-led businesses and economic participation.
Reforms in Drama Festivals
New guidelines for the 2026 Kenyan National Drama Festival emphasize originality, learner-driven creativity, and safety. The use of dangerous props, explicit content, and excessive reliance on AI has been prohibited to preserve educational and cultural integrity.
Voter Registration Drive Intensified
The has registered over 344,000 new voters, with a call for increased youth participation to strengthen democracy.
