“Parliamentary Suspension Sparks Firestorm: ODM Leaders Slam ‘Political Witch Hunt’ Against Anthony Kibagendi”
By Jeff Kizzilah
Top leaders of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), including Nairobi Senator , Embakasi East MP , and Vihiga Senator , convened a press conference today to condemn the recent suspension of Kitutu Chache MP from Parliament.
The leaders described the suspension as a blatant act of political victimization and a maneuver aimed at silencing dissenting voices in the legislature. ODM’s Linda Mwananchi team emphasized that such punitive measures undermine the principles of democracy, parliamentary independence, and the representation of constituents.
During the press briefing, the leaders accused the ruling administration of selectively targeting opposition MPs while ignoring infractions within its own ranks. They vowed to pursue all legal avenues to challenge the suspension and called on Kenyans to stand vigilant against what they termed “abuse of parliamentary authority for partisan interests.”
stated, “This is not just about Anthony Kibagendi. It’s about the very soul of our democracy. We cannot allow Parliament to be turned into a tool for political intimidation.”
added, “Our people sent us to Parliament to fight for their rights. We will not be cowed by suspensions, threats, or political theatrics. Justice will prevail.”
The ODM team pledged to continue mobilizing public opinion, engaging civil society, and using legal frameworks to protect the rights of MPs and ensure that the voice of the people is not stifled.
