“Uko Kadi?” Movement Gains Momentum Under Young Nairobi Photojournalist

The grassroots movement “Uko Kadi?” is capturing the attention of Kenya’s youth, led by 26-year-old Allans Ademba, a photojournalist from Kibra, Nairobi.

Ademba, who has spent years documenting life in Nairobi’s informal settlements, says his work is driven by a desire to help citizens better understand how government policies and services affect their daily lives.

Through the “Uko Kadi?” initiative, he is mobilizing young people to actively engage in civic processes, including voter registration and political awareness campaigns.

“Government affects everyone’s life, yet most people don’t understand how decisions are made. With ‘Uko Kadi?’, we are not just asking questions — we are empowering youth to seek answers and take action,” said Ademba.

The initiative has already gained traction on social media, with thousands of Kenyan youth participating in discussions about governance, accountability, and civic responsibility. Organizers say the goal is to create a generation that is informed, proactive, and unafraid to hold leaders accountable.
