Kenya, Mozambique Forge Stronger Ties with New Deals on Trade, Security, and Youth Empowerment

Kenya has reaffirmed its strong and growing bilateral relations with Mozambique, underscoring a shared commitment to deepen cooperation across key sectors that drive economic growth, regional integration, and stability.
This follows high-level talks held at State House, Nairobi, where President William Ruto hosted Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of Mozambique. The meeting marked a significant step forward in strengthening ties between the two nations.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and economic cooperation by building on existing progress while unlocking untapped and underutilized opportunities. They also committed to addressing both tariff and non-tariff barriers that have hindered the full potential of trade and investment flows between the two countries.
The partnership will focus on strategic sectors including tourism, clean energy, and aviation—recognized as a key enabler of trade and people-to-people connections. Additional areas of collaboration include the blue economy and maritime cooperation, which are critical to sustainable development and regional prosperity.
On matters of security, Kenya and Mozambique pledged to intensify joint efforts in counter-terrorism and the promotion of peace, security, and stability across the region, reflecting a united front against emerging threats.
During the visit, the two Heads of State witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements cover diplomatic training, research and capacity building, correctional services, as well as youth development and sports collaboration.
The engagements signal a shared vision between Kenya and Mozambique to accelerate socio-economic transformation and strengthen continental unity through strategic partnerships.
