Death Sparks Fury: Laikipia University Students Paralyze Nyahururu–Nakuru Highway Over ‘Failed’ Ambulance Respons
By Jeff Kizzilah/Digital Editor
Transport along the busy Nyahururu–Nakuru Highway was brought to a complete standstill after students from Laikipia University staged protests following the tragic death of a first-year media student.
The students took to the highway in large numbers, blocking traffic and lighting bonfires as they demanded answers from the university administration. The protests were fueled by allegations that the institution’s ambulance failed to respond promptly during the medical emergency, a delay they claim may have cost the student’s life.
Eyewitnesses and fellow students expressed outrage, accusing the university of negligence and lack of preparedness in handling emergencies. They called for accountability from the administration, improved medical response systems, and justice for their fallen colleague.
The unrest caused major disruption along the Nyahururu–Nakuru route, with motorists stranded for hours as security officers were deployed to restore order and clear the road.
University officials had not issued a detailed statement by the time of this release but are expected to address the concerns raised by students. Authorities have urged calm as investigations into the incident begin.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the state of emergency response systems in learning institutions and the safety of students across the country.
