President William Ruto and President Yoweri Museveni have officially launched the transformative Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project, marking a historic milestone in East Africa’s journey toward deeper regional integration and economic growth.

The joint launch ceremony underscores the two nations’ shared commitment to strengthening cross-border infrastructure, enhancing trade efficiency, and unlocking new economic opportunities across the region. The SGR extension is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, improve cargo movement, and position East Africa as a competitive trade hub.

Speaking during the event, the leaders emphasized that the project is more than just a railway—it is a symbol of unity, cooperation, and a shared vision for prosperity. By connecting key economic corridors, the railway will facilitate faster movement of goods and people, boost industrialization, and support millions of livelihoods.

The Naivasha–Kisumu–Malaba SGR line is set to play a critical role in linking Kenya to Uganda and the wider East African region, reinforcing strategic partnerships and paving the way for sustained economic transformation.

This landmark initiative signals a bold step forward in building a modern, interconnected, and prosperous East Africa.
