Safaricom PLC Chief Executive Officer, Peter Ndegwa, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to customer privacy, describing trust as the cornerstone of every financial journey powered by M-PESA.
- Speaking during the Data Minimization Media Briefing held earlier today, Ndegwa expressed strong confidence in the latest enhancements to the M-PESA platform, noting that the new measures mark a significant milestone in safeguarding customer information.
“Trust is the foundation of every financial journey we empower. Today marks an important step in strengthening how we protect our customers on M-PESA,” said Ndegwa.
The new update introduces a data minimization approach, ensuring that only essential information is visible during transactions. This move is expected to give millions of Kenyans greater control over their personal data while maintaining the seamless and efficient experience M-PESA is known for.According to Safaricom, the initiative is deliberately designed to reduce exposure to fraud, curb unwanted contact, and enhance overall transaction security across the platform, which processes millions of transactions daily.
Ndegwa emphasized that the development goes beyond a routine system upgrade, positioning it as a strategic step toward reinforcing consumer confidence in digital financial services.“This is more than a feature update; it is a reaffirmation of our core purpose.
