“Nairobi Must Be Ready for Tomorrow” – Agnes Kagure Calls for Strong Disaster Preparedness
By Jeff Kizzilah
Businesswoman and Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Agnes Kagure has called for a leadership approach that prioritizes planning, preparedness, and strong systems to protect residents from preventable crises.
In a statement addressing the growing challenges facing the capital, Kagure emphasized that Nairobi requires leadership that looks ahead and invests in systems capable of responding effectively when emergencies occur.
“I advocate for a leadership that plans ahead, invests in systems that work, and ensures that when challenges arise, our people are not left to suffer consequences that could have been avoided,” she said.
Kagure noted that disasters such as building collapses, flooding, fires, and infrastructure failures continue to expose weaknesses in the city’s preparedness and response systems. She argued that many of these tragedies can be minimized through better urban planning, strict enforcement of building regulations, and a well-coordinated disaster-response framework.
According to Kagure, a robust emergency response system, supported by modern technology and properly equipped teams, is essential for protecting lives and property in the rapidly growing capital.
