30,000 Kenyans Across the Country Benefit from Bamburi Cement Plc’s Expanded Ramadhan Food Drive

Bamburi Cement Plc has significantly expanded its annual Ramadhan Food Drive, scaling up the initiative to support approximately 4,000 vulnerable families across Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Machakos, and Nairobi counties—reaching at least 30,000 beneficiaries during this year’s Holy Month.
Now in its second year, the initiative has grown into a large-scale community support programme aimed at easing the burden on vulnerable households during Ramadhan, a period marked by fasting, reflection, and acts of charity.
Speaking during the food distribution exercise, Amsons Group Country Representative Tawakal Rajab Sumba emphasized that the programme reflects the company’s broader commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.
“This initiative is rooted in compassion and inclusivity. By increasing our reach to 30,000 individuals and expanding into areas such as Matuga, we are deepening our partnership with communities and reinforcing our long-term commitment to social impact,” said Sumba.
For thousands of Muslim faithful fasting from dawn to dusk, the daily Iftar meal is both a spiritual and communal moment. However, for many low-income families, the rising cost of living has made it increasingly difficult to provide meals to break the fast. By targeting 4,000 families—equivalent to nearly 30,000 individuals—the 2026 food drive aims to ensure that more households can observe the holy month with dignity and without uncertainty about their next meal.
This year’s programme has also expanded its reach beyond households, extending food support to Kenya Prisons facilities, orphanages, and children’s homes—institutions where food insecurity often remains a hidden challenge.
The initiative was officially launched at Afra Hall in Mombasa Town, marking the start of coordinated food distributions across the participating counties. Beneficiary families will receive essential food supplies designed to sustain them throughout the fasting period.
Originally launched in 2025 following Bamburi Cement’s acquisition by the Amsons Group, the Ramadhan Food Drive has since evolved into a flagship corporate social responsibility programme for the company. The initiative reflects a growing focus on structured and sustainable community support in regions where Bamburi Cement operates.
The 2026 outreach will culminate in a stakeholder Iftar dinner hosted in Mombasa, bringing together partners and community representatives for a shared moment of reflection, solidarity, and gratitude during the holy month.
