GOVERNMENT DISMISSES CLAIMS OF KARURA FOREST GRABBy Jeff Kizzilah

The government has strongly dismissed claims circulating on social media and other platforms alleging the grabbing or destruction of land within Karura Forest, terming the reports misleading and inaccurate.

Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Tuesday, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said some individuals have been exaggerating and misleading the public about activities taking place within the forest.

Dr. Mwaura clarified that the land in question measures only three acres and forms part of an existing nursery under the Tree Biotechnology Programme Trust.

He emphasized that the land is not newly acquired forest land, and that the ongoing activity does not involve cutting down trees or clearing new sections of the forest.

According to the government spokesperson, the work currently underway is the rehabilitation and improvement of infrastructure on land that had already been designated for the tree nursery program.

The government has urged the public to ignore misleading information and rely on official communication from relevant authorities regarding environmental conservation and the management of public resources.
