Baba Yao Back on the Streets: Waititu Walks Free on Kshs 20M Bail Amid Kshs 588M Graft Case

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as Baba Yao, has been released from Kamiti Maximum Prison after the Milimani High Court reviewed and significantly reduced his bail terms in the ongoing Kshs 588 million graft case appeal.

Baba Yao posted Kshs 20 million in cash bail along with two credible sureties, allowing him temporary freedom while the case continues in court.

The release has sparked intense debate among Kenyans, with critics questioning the fairness of the reduced bail and raising concerns about accountability in high-profile corruption cases. Supporters, however, hail the decision as a relief for Waititu, who has maintained his innocence throughout the legal proceedings.

The case, which involves allegations of massive financial mismanagement during his tenure as Kiambu Governor, continues to attract public attention as the judiciary examines the merits of the appeal.
