Thousands of Kenyan families continue to live in pain, poverty, and uncertainty after losing their loved ones during protest-related violence. Breadwinners were killed, families were shattered, and children were left without support. To date, many of these families have received nothing.\u201cWe have waited patiently. We have listened to promises. We have respected institutions. But our patience has been exhausted. Compensation is long overdue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Families cannot eat court rulings. Children cannot go to school on legal arguments. Widows cannot survive on promises. We need compensation now, not tomorrow,\u201d said a representative of the victims.The victims strongly condemn the continued use of courts to delay, frustrate, and drag cases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe justice system must not be turned into a marketplace where victims\u2019 suffering is traded and delayed for interests that have nothing to do with us. Brokers who thrive on endless cases are benefitting while victims continue to suffer. These middlemen are prolonging cases for personal, political, or financial gain,\u201d the statement reads.Victims also raised concerns over civil society actors and self-appointed activists who claim to represent them while fundraising in their name. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome civil society actors are blocking and slowing down compensation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Families remain hungry while others profit. This betrayal must end.\u201dThe victims have expressed unequivocal support for the President\u2019s initiative to compensate victims of protest-related violence. \u201cThis initiative offers a direct, humane, and practical solution.
