MOMBASA, September 24, 2026 \u2014 More than 1,000 kilogrammes of methamphetamine valued at approximately KSh8.2 billion<\/strong> has been destroyed at the Bamburi Cement Factory in Mombasa following the completion of the required legal processes.<\/p>\n

The narcotics were seized in the Indian Ocean in October 2025 during a multi-agency operation involving Kenyan security agencies. Authorities said the consignment weighed more than one tonne and was confirmed to be methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen presided over the destruction, alongside senior security officials, including Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Mohamed Amin.<\/p>\n

The destruction follows a case in which six Iranian nationals were charged over the trafficking of the narcotics. The prosecution previously told the Shanzu court that laboratory analysis had confirmed the substance as methamphetamine.<\/p>\n

However, the high-profile destruction is also generating public questions, particularly online, over the visibility of the process and the evidence retained for the ongoing judicial proceedings.<\/p>\n

\u201cSimumeona evidence imechomwa, wakuu?\u201d<\/strong> is the question being raised by some members of the public as authorities dispose of the bulk consignment.<\/p>\n

Under the legal process, material required for evidentiary purposes can be retained while the remaining seized narcotics are destroyed after the necessary judicial requirements are met.<\/p>\n
