President William Ruto has renewed his attacks on his predecessor, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, this time labelling him a rebel leader who has refused to embrace the role of a statesman.

Welcoming a High Court ruling that barred Kenyatta from holding office in a political party, President Ruto said his former boss had brought shame to the office of the president that he previously occupied.

Ruto, who was leading his re-election campaign in Siaya County, also called on Kenyans to shun opposition leaders, accusing them of playing guesswork with the future of the country.

“I find it baffling: a person who has served as President of Kenya, leaves the presidency and, instead of becoming a statesman, becomes a leader of rebels—an opposition leader. The High Court has even ordered him to step down (as leader of the Jubilee Party) that is a big shame!” President Ruto said.

The President added that Kenyatta had disgraced the highest office in the land and accused him of continuing to sponsor the opposition in an effort to destabilise his government.

“And now, he has supposedly hired James Orengo—those ‘Linda Sponsor’ people. Governor Orengo should steer clear of the ‘Linda Sponsor’ narrative. If Uhuru Kenyatta couldn’t defeat me when he was President, would he really defeat me now that I am President?” Ruto posed.

President Ruto has previously fired a string of salvos at Kenyatta and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, accusing them of sponsoring the opposition.

Turning to the opposition brigade, President Ruto, who was in Siaya, ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Odinga’s backyard, called on Kenyans to dismiss the opposition.

“Those other fellows want to gamble with our country—people who have no plan, no policies, and lack even basic sense. Kenya is too important. Our nation is too important to be left to games of guesswork,” Ruto stated.
