NPA Backs KNEC on 2026 Exam Registration Deadline, Warns Schools Against \u201cWrong Papers\u201d and Examination Shortcuts<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The National Parents Association (NPA) has come out in strong support of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) over the non-registration of some candidates for the forthcoming 2026 National Examinations and Assessments.<\/p>\n

The NPA says while the concerns of affected parents are understandable, learners should not be made to bear the consequences of failures by adults responsible for their education.<\/p>\n
According to the NPA, the Ministry of Education and KNEC communicated the examination registration requirements and deadlines, with schools expected to ensure that all eligible candidates were registered within the stipulated timelines. The official registration deadline was 31 March 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
The association says KNEC should not be pressured to arbitrarily reopen the registration process after preparations for the examinations have proceeded on the basis of officially registered candidates.<\/p>\n
NPA WARNS SCHOOLS AGAINST UNAUTHORIZED EXAMINATION PAPERS<\/strong><\/p>\n
The NPA has issued a stern warning to school heads, teachers, examination administrators and parents against allowing candidates to sit for examination papers, subjects or assessment components for which they were not officially registered.<\/p>\n
The association insists that examination papers are not interchangeable and that schools must strictly follow instructions issued by KNEC.<\/p>\n
The NPA has particularly cautioned schools against making unauthorized substitutions involving Kenya Sign Language (KSL)<\/strong> or other specialized assessment components designated for eligible learners with special educational needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cA registration mistake cannot be corrected by creating another examination irregularity,\u201d the NPA warns, urging examination-centre managers not to gamble with the academic future of learners.<\/p>\n
The association says any school that knowingly allows a candidate to sit for an unauthorized paper or assessment component should be prepared to account for its actions and face the appropriate consequences under examination regulations.<\/p>\n
SCHOOL HEADS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NPA is calling on the Ministry of Education and relevant authorities to investigate cases where school heads may have deliberately or negligently failed to register eligible candidates.<\/p>\n
The association says school leadership has a fundamental responsibility to safeguard learners’ educational interests, provide accurate information to parents and address registration problems before they become crises.<\/p>\n
The NPA also cautions against delegating critical examination-registration responsibilities to staff who may not fully understand KNEC requirements, stressing that ultimate accountability remains with school leadership.<\/p>\n
PARENTS ALSO HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY<\/strong><\/p>\n
The NPA says parents and guardians must accept their share of responsibility by remaining actively involved in their children’s education.<\/p>\n
Parents have been urged to maintain regular communication with schools, take official notices seriously, visit schools where necessary and seek clarification early whenever concerns arise.<\/p>\n
The association has also warned parents against pressuring teachers, school heads or examination officials to bend examination rules in an attempt to rescue children from registration problems.<\/p>\n
ZERO TOLERANCE FOR EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE<\/strong><\/p>\n
The NPA has reiterated its zero-tolerance position on national examination malpractice.<\/p>\n
Parents and guardians have been warned against obtaining examination papers illegally, bribing officials, facilitating unauthorized assistance or colluding with school staff to give candidates an unfair advantage.<\/p>\n
The association says academic success should be built on honesty, discipline and hard work rather than shortcuts that could expose learners and adults to serious consequences.<\/p>\n
WARNING AGAINST ILLEGAL SCHOOL TRANSFERS<\/strong><\/p>\n
The NPA has further urged parents not to use school transfers as a way of escaping disciplinary action.<\/p>\n
Parents have been encouraged to work with schools to address cases of indiscipline through established procedures rather than transferring learners without proper disclosure or authorization.<\/p>\n
GRADE 9 LEARNERS NEED SPECIAL PROTECTION<\/strong><\/p>\n
The association has expressed particular concern about Grade 9 learners affected by examination-registration challenges.<\/p>\n
The NPA says these learners are at a critical stage of their education and should not suffer because of administrative failures, misinformation, negligence or misconduct by adults.<\/p>\n
The association is calling on the Ministry of Education to urgently examine reported cases and ensure affected learners are guided towards lawful and appropriate solutions.<\/p>\n
NPA CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND PARENTAL SENSITIZATION<\/strong><\/p>\n
The NPA wants accountability established wherever wrongdoing occurred, while cautioning against turning the matter into a blame game.<\/p>\n
The association is calling for stronger cooperation between the Ministry of Education and NPA to improve parental sensitization across all 47 counties.<\/p>\n
It proposes strengthened county, sub-county and school-level awareness programmes covering examination registration, assessment requirements, learner transfers, discipline, school governance and parental responsibilities.<\/p>\n
AFFECTED PARENTS URGED TO REPORT CASES<\/strong><\/p>\n
Parents and guardians whose children were not officially registered for the forthcoming national examinations and assessments have been urged to report their cases immediately to their respective Sub-County Directors of Education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
They should provide all relevant documentation to enable authorities to establish what happened and determine the appropriate course of action.<\/p>\n
The NPA has also urged affected parents to avoid confrontations, misinformation and accusations without evidence, stressing that the priority should be protecting the learner.<\/p>\n
The National Parents Association has reaffirmed its confidence in KNEC’s mandate to administer national examinations and assessments with integrity, fairness and professionalism.<\/p>\n
The association says the current situation should serve as a learning opportunity for Kenya’s education sector and calls for renewed cooperation between the Government, Ministry of Education, KNEC, school leaders, teachers and parents.<\/p>\n
The NPA’s position is clear: protect the learner, uphold examination integrity and hold accountable those responsible for failures\u2014without turning one administrative mistake into another examination irregularity.<\/strong><\/p>\n
