EACC Warns Public Officers: Fail to Declare Wealth and Risk Salary Stoppage<\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Public officers who fail to submit mandatory declarations of income, assets and liabilities could face administrative action, including possible salary stoppage and disciplinary proceedings, under new rules issued by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).<\/h6>\n
The new requirements seek to strengthen accountability and transparency among public officers by ensuring that their financial interests are properly declared and regularly updated.<\/p>\n
Under the rules, public officers are required to declare their income, assets and liabilities, including those belonging to their spouses and dependent children below the age of 18.<\/p>\n
Officers must submit initial declarations within 30 days of appointment<\/strong>, while biennial declarations must be submitted by December 31 every other year<\/strong>. Final declarations are required within 30 days of leaving public office.<\/p>\n
The requirements also cover assets, income and liabilities held outside Kenya<\/strong> or jointly with another person or entity. Public officers must disclose their share, ownership or other interest in such holdings.<\/p>\n
Elected officials will be required to submit final declarations when their terms of office come to an end, even if they intend to seek re-election<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
For appointed officers, final declarations must similarly be submitted at the end of their terms unless their appointments are renewed.<\/p>\n
The EACC has warned that failure to comply with the declaration requirements could attract administrative and disciplinary consequences, signalling a tougher approach to enforcement of financial accountability rules within the public service.<\/p>\n
