<\/a><\/p>\nA total of 121 scholars under the Equity Leaders Program (ELP) from Kenya (86), Uganda (4), Rwanda (29), and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (2) have secured admission to prestigious universities across the world for the 2025\/2026 academic year, each receiving comprehensive scholarships and financial aid packages from their respective institutions.<\/p>\n
The scholars have earned places at 63 universities in 16 countries spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, underscoring Equity Group Foundation’s continued commitment to investing in education, leadership development, and nurturing globally competitive African talent.<\/p>\n
Additionally, 44 ELP scholars have been shortlisted and completed interviews for the Kenyan Government-sponsored overseas undergraduate scholarship programme. Of these, 23 scholars are awaiting final confirmation for the T\u00fcrkiye Government Scholarship, while 21 are awaiting results for the Romania Government Scholarship.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at Equity Centre in Upper Hill, Nairobi, Dr. James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation and Managing Director & CEO of Equity Group, said the Equity Leaders Program continues to play a critical role in shaping Africa’s future by developing ethical, innovative, and transformational leaders.<\/p>\n
“The Equity Leaders Program represents our long-term commitment to Africa’s potential and our belief that the continent’s future growth will be driven by well-prepared, values-based leaders. As you join global universities, remember that you carry the hopes of your families and the aspirations of our nations. Learn with courage, lead with integrity, and return equipped with world-class knowledge and networks to transform Africa,” Dr. Mwangi said.<\/p>\n
Joining him at the event, Ondrej Simek, Deputy Head of Delegation at the European Union to Kenya, congratulated the scholars for their remarkable achievement and encouraged them to maximize the opportunities before them.<\/p>\n
“You have earned your place through an exceptionally competitive process. Embrace every opportunity, remain curious, build friendships across cultures, and challenge yourselves academically. The knowledge and experiences you gain will position you to become leaders who drive meaningful transformation across Africa,” Simek said.<\/p>\n
One of the beneficiaries, Aime Iradukunda from Uganda, who gained admission to Harvard University to study Electrical Engineering and Economics, described the opportunity as life-changing.<\/p>\n
“I applied to about 14 universities before receiving my admission to Harvard. I honestly thought my chances were very small. Receiving the acceptance letter was unbelievable. I am grateful to Equity Bank Uganda and Equity Group for believing in me and supporting my dream of studying at one of the world’s leading universities,” he said.<\/p>\n
