{"id":5057,"date":"2026-08-05T09:27:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T09:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=5057"},"modified":"2026-08-05T09:27:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T09:27:12","slug":"npa-calls-for-stronger-stem-partnerships-to-accelerate-competency-based-education-across-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/?p=5057","title":{"rendered":"NPA Calls for Stronger STEM Partnerships to Accelerate Competency-Based Education Across Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><strong>NPA Calls for Stronger STEM Partnerships to Accelerate Competency-Based Education Across Kenya<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Theme:<\/strong> <em>Strengthening Communities of Practice for Innovation Educators Towards Successful Competency-Based Education (CBE) Implementation<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The National Parents Association (NPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the successful implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) through stronger collaboration between parents, teachers, government, industry, and development partners.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Speaking during the <strong>STEM Teacher Ambassadors Community of Practice<\/strong>, Mr. <strong>Silas David Obuhatsa<\/strong>, National Chairman of the National Parents Association, applauded the Ministry of Education, STEM Teacher Ambassadors, development partners, education stakeholders, and parents for their collective efforts to strengthen quality education and innovation in Kenya.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Obuhatsa noted that education in the 21st century is no longer measured by the amount of information learners can memorize but by their ability to think critically, innovate, solve real-life challenges, collaborate effectively, and apply knowledge to improve society.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Education is no longer measured by how much information learners can memorize. Instead, it is measured by how effectively learners can think critically, innovate, solve real-life problems, collaborate with others, and apply knowledge to improve society. This is exactly what the Competency-Based Education curriculum seeks to achieve,&#8221; he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He emphasized that Communities of Practice provide educators with an important platform to continuously improve professional knowledge through collaboration, mentorship, classroom research, and the sharing of innovative teaching approaches. Such collaboration ensures teachers benefit from collective expertise while improving learning outcomes across the country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5058\" src=\"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/livenation254.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/IMG-20260804-WA03191.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The NPA Chairman described STEM Teacher Ambassadors as mentors, innovators, researchers, coaches, and change agents who are inspiring learners to pursue careers in science, engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, renewable energy, digital technology, agriculture, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that parents remain indispensable partners in education, noting that the home is every child&#8217;s first learning environment. He encouraged parents to actively support STEM learning by nurturing curiosity, supervising projects, participating in school programmes, and working closely with teachers to help learners build confidence, creativity, and a passion for science and technology.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Obuhatsa further observed that employers increasingly require graduates with practical competencies alongside academic qualifications, including critical thinking, communication, leadership, integrity, technological skills, creativity, adaptability, teamwork, and lifelong learning\u2014core values embedded within the Competency-Based Education curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>The National Parents Association called for sustained government investment in teacher professional development, digital infrastructure, science laboratories, innovation hubs, technical equipment, internet connectivity, and modern learning resources to guarantee equitable access to quality STEM education in all 47 counties.<\/p>\n<p>The Association also urged stronger partnerships between schools and industry to bridge the gap between education and employment through mentorship programmes, internships, innovation competitions, career guidance, workplace exposure, and equipment support.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing the contribution of development partners, the NPA welcomed continued collaboration in teacher training, curriculum innovation, digital learning, research, scholarships, inclusive education, mentorship, and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>To strengthen parental participation, the Association proposed the establishment of <strong>County STEM Parent Engagement Forums<\/strong> that would bring together parents, teachers, universities, technical institutions, industry leaders, government agencies, and development partners to discuss innovation, career pathways, learner mentorship, digital safety, environmental sustainability, and emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The Association further encouraged schools to identify and nurture talented learners through innovation clubs, coding programmes, robotics competitions, science fairs, engineering projects, agricultural innovation initiatives, mathematics contests, and mentorship programmes, with parents playing an active supporting role.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Obuhatsa emphasized that Kenya&#8217;s aspirations under Vision 2030 and future national development strategies will largely depend on the quality of human capital developed today.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The scientists, engineers, doctors, software developers, innovators, researchers, technicians, entrepreneurs, and industrial leaders of tomorrow are currently sitting in our classrooms.
