<\/a><\/p>\nThe National Parents Association (NPA) has applauded the Government of Kenya and the church in Western Kenya for partnering to construct decent homes for vulnerable widow-headed families, describing the initiative as a powerful demonstration of compassion, servant leadership, and a shared commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged children.<\/p>\n
The Association noted that many widows serve as the primary caregivers of school-going children and emphasized that access to safe and dignified housing is fundamental to children’s education, well-being, and future success. According to the NPA, secure living conditions enable learners to remain in school, improve academic performance, and enjoy better physical and mental health.<\/p>\n
NPA praised the collaboration between the Government and faith-based institutions as an example of how partnerships can restore hope, dignity, and stability to families affected by poverty, inadequate housing, and social exclusion.<\/p>\n
The Association urged Kenyans to view the initiative as a humanitarian intervention rather than a political undertaking, stressing that the greatest beneficiaries are vulnerable children whose education and future depend on a supportive and stable home environment.<\/p>\n
To maximize its impact, NPA called on the Government to expand the programme to all 47 counties, noting that every region has vulnerable widows and disadvantaged children who deserve the opportunity to live in dignity and pursue education without barriers.<\/p>\n
The Association also appealed to development partners, corporate institutions, charitable organizations, philanthropic foundations, community groups, and individual well-wishers to support the initiative, saying that investing in vulnerable families is an investment in Kenya’s long-term social and economic development.<\/p>\n
In addition, NPA requested the Government to complement the housing programme with food assistance and other essential household support for beneficiary families, particularly widow caregivers. The Association observed that while decent housing restores dignity, adequate nutrition is equally critical in enabling children to remain healthy, attend school consistently, and concentrate on their studies.<\/p>\n
NPA warned that many widows continue to shoulder enormous responsibilities with limited resources, exposing vulnerable children to risks such as school dropout, child labour, and early marriage. It stated that comprehensive social protection measures would significantly strengthen families and safeguard children’s right to education.<\/p>\n
The Association expressed confidence that the initiative will improve school enrolment, attendance, retention, and transition rates among vulnerable learners by providing children with greater stability, confidence, and hope for the future.<\/p>\n
NPA reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Government, county governments, faith-based organizations, development partners, and local communities to advance the welfare, protection, and education of every child in Kenya.<\/p>\n
