KCB Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Kenya’s and East Africa’s energy sector, revealing that it has facilitated petroleum imports worth more than KSh1.074 trillion<\/strong> under the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) fuel importation programme.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the Petroleum Institute of East Africa (PIEA) 2026 Half-Year State of the Oil Industry Briefing<\/strong>, KCB Director of Corporate Banking Peter Ng’eno<\/strong> said financial institutions play a critical role in ensuring energy security by providing sustainable financing that keeps fuel supply chains running even during global disruptions.<\/p>\n

Addressing Energy Cabinet Secretary , industry leaders and stakeholders, Ng’eno noted that the theme, “Strengthening Energy Security and Supply Resilience in a Dynamic Global Environment,”<\/em> comes at a time when geopolitical conflicts, foreign exchange volatility, inflation and supply chain disruptions continue to threaten global energy markets.<\/p>\n
He highlighted KCB’s pivotal role during Kenya’s 2022 fuel supply crisis, when the bank partnered with the government to operationalise the G-to-G fuel importation framework. Through the programme, KCB issued Letters of Credit exceeding KSh1.074 trillion<\/strong>, helping stabilise fuel supplies while easing pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.<\/p>\n
Ng’eno emphasized that energy resilience is no longer dependent solely on infrastructure but also on robust financial systems capable of supporting imports, managing risk and ensuring uninterrupted supply during periods of uncertainty.<\/p>\n
He further called for greater collaboration between governments, industry players and financial institutions to build resilient energy systems while supporting the transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.<\/p>\n
“KCB remains committed to financing investments across the oil and gas value chain, from upstream exploration to downstream distribution, while also supporting renewable energy projects that will strengthen East Africa’s long-term energy security,” he said.<\/p>\n
Ng’eno concluded by reaffirming KCB’s commitment to partnering with the Petroleum Institute of East Africa and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to build a secure, resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem that supports inclusive economic growth across the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
