LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY (LDP) ON CLAIMS OF KENYA BECOMING A \u201cSINGAPORE\u201d<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has strongly dismissed political rhetoric by the Kenya Kwanza government suggesting that Kenya can be transformed into a \u201cSingapore.\u201d LDP maintains that such statements are misleading, unrealistic, and designed to excite the public politically rather than offer practical solutions to Kenya\u2019s deep-rooted economic and governance challenges.<\/div>\n

Singapore, which belongs to the group of Asian Tigers, did not become an economic powerhouse through slogans or political bravado. Its success is the result of decades of disciplined leadership, sound governance, long-term planning, zero tolerance for corruption, and deliberate investment in infrastructure, education, and institutions.<\/div>\n

As the late former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Robert John Ouko once warned, dreams remain dreams if they are not grounded in reality. While President William Ruto, like any other leader, has the right to dream, LDP cautions that it is irresponsible to place the country at a crossroads by selling political fantasies that are neither practical nor achievable in the current Kenyan context.<\/div>\n

Kenya is not prepared for such lofty comparisons. The country still grapples with corruption, weak governance, tribal politics, institutional decay, and failing infrastructure. These fundamental issues must be addressed first before subjecting Kenyans to long-term economic experiments that risk worsening the current situation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Transforming a country to the level of first-world economies such as Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, or China takes time, consistency, discipline, and realistic strategies\u2014not campaign rhetoric aimed at winning elections or hoodwinking citizens.<\/div>\n

LDP Secretary General Dr. Denise\u00a0 Kodhe urges Kenyans to remain cautious and critical of political statements meant to manipulate public opinion in favor of certain individuals. While the \u201cSingapore dream\u201d may sound inspirational, it is grossly misplaced at this moment. Before dreaming big, Kenya must decisively confront corruption, bad governance, and tribalism.<\/div>\n

The party further questions the sincerity of the Kenya Kwanza government itself, asking: What happened to the Bottom-Up Economic Model that was aggressively sold to Kenyans during the campaign period? How can the government abandon its own flagship promise and suddenly pivot to selling a Singapore-style transformation?<\/div>\n

LDP raises serious concerns over attempts by the Kenya Kwanza leadership to privatize or auction key national assets under the guise of economic transformation. Projects such as the Expressway, developments at the Kenya Pipeline Company, and looming plans involving institutions like the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) raise red flags. These moves appear to benefit a few politically connected individuals rather than the Kenyan people.<\/div>\n

Of particular concern is the proposal to form a special company, endorsed by Parliament, allegedly to spearhead Kenya\u2019s transformation into a \u201cSingapore.\u201d LDP views this as a suspicious and potentially corrupt scheme aimed at creating private business empires for certain politicians under the pretext of national development.<\/div>\n

LDP also challenges opposition leaders to rise to the occasion. Issuing statements from luxury hotels and private residences is not enough. The opposition must boldly step out, mobilize citizens, and resist punitive, corrupt, and unsolicited policies being imposed by the Kenya Kwanza government. Fear of teargas or intimidation should not silence leaders who claim to stand for the people.<\/div>\n

The party calls on opposition leaders to emulate the courage of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, who fearlessly confronted oppressive regimes and stood with citizens in moments of national crisis.<\/div>\n
