By News Desk<\/pre>\nReligious leaders have called on Kenyans to uphold peace, unity, and national cohesion as the country begins preparations for the 2027 General Election, warning against<\/strong><\/span> divisive politics, hate speech, and intolerance.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The appeal was made on Friday during a prayer gathering held at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, where the clergy also endorsed Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat.<\/p>\n
Led by Bishop Richard Onwong\u2019a of Faith International Church and Pastor William Mwangangi of Jesus Manifestation Church, the religious leaders emphasized the critical role of the church in fostering reconciliation, moral leadership, and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs servants of God, we recognize the important role of the church in promoting peace, unity, reconciliation and moral leadership in society,\u201d said Bishop Onwong\u2019a.<\/p>\n
The church leaders urged both political leaders and citizens to reject rhetoric and actions that could undermine national harmony during the electioneering period.<\/p>\n
They cautioned that hate speech, ethnic divisions, and political intolerance pose significant threats to the country’s stability and called on leaders to champion issue-based campaigns that unite rather than divide communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe reaffirm our commitment to continue praying for our country, Kenya, that God may preserve the peace we enjoy, strengthen national unity and guide our leaders and citizens alike,\u201d the clergy said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n
The religious leaders further pledged to mobilize churches across Nairobi and beyond to pray for peaceful elections and encourage responsible political engagement among citizens.
\nIn endorsing Senator Tabitha Mutinda for the Nairobi Woman Representative position, the clergy expressed confidence in her leadership abilities and commitment to serving the people of Nairobi.<\/p>\nTheir remarks come at a time of heightened political activity across the country as leaders intensify grassroots mobilization and public engagements ahead of the 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n
